In 1997 I decided I wanted to learn web design. With the help of a talented teenaged friend, I began with the basics and learned as I went along.
The ways things were done in those days isn’t the way they’re done today. The desktop software I used in the 20th century is totally out of date. All web design now is on line using much different methods than I learned way back then. I had reached the point where I couldn’t easily update my old web. So after a lot of pondering, I decided to start all over again. I love learning new things, and at my advanced age (77 at this writing), that learning is vital to my well-being and growth. And it’s fun!
The new build will take a long time. I had over 700 pages on my original web. I am picking and choosing which sections merit a complete redesign, which can be pared down, and which can go away altogether. I’m also deciding what I want this web to be. And I’m doing this blog, called the Speakeasy. We’ll see how it goes.
Your suggestions and questions are welcome. Have at it in the Comments section below.

Hi, Chris.
You WILL include the section on the Bicentennial Birthday cake, right!
I showed it to my grandkids and my daughter in law’s parents last year, including the pictures of the historic events in pastry and they loved it. Besides, your website may be the only source on the Interwebs showing this historic event.
I’ll be watching!
Give Dexter a treat for me.

Mark, the cake section is up next. I’m almost done with the art gallery, and I knew some people might be looking for the cake. So stay tuned…
Nice to hear from you–
Chris
