Because our wall space is already completely occupied, this painting (and many others) languished in the closet for a long time. When we finally began to pay some attention to those treasures, we discovered another painting on the back of this still life—the beautiful portrait below. Like most artists, Long would occasionally decide against finishing a painting. To avoid wasting the canvas, he would reverse and restretch it, and start over on the blank side. Who knows why he made that decision? We think it’s a beauty.
