Cactus Hill is the home of Ed and Chris Born-Long. Ed Born, who comes from the south side of Chicago, and Chris Long, from the north side of Chicago, met in Austin, Texas, in 1982. By happy coincidence, each of us was truly born long, so it was natural that each joined Austin's Tall Club, a singles club for tall people. Do you believe in fate? Because the rest is history. The two names joined naturally, and so began the Born-Longs. The official hyphenation took place on Valentine’s Day 1983. That same year, we bought our land in Bastrop County while we were still living in Austin. Two years later, we took everything we owned and relocated it with friends and relatives, with the overflow in storage sheds. We moved into a small travel trailer and began our construction project—and finished it more than three years later! Oh well, when you're in such a pretty place, there's no need to hurry, right?
