Cactus Hill's humble beginnings. Here's our little travel trailer, which housed us for six months until we were able to build the shell for our house. The wooden container on the left is one of three such packing crates that served as storage and, in this case, as home for the seven cockatiels who shared the adventure with us.
The trailer served its purpose, but it was a challenge for two born-long people. During this period (beginning February 1985) we stored all of our furniture and personal belongings and found temporary homes for our paintings and other valuables. About once a month we treated ourselves to a night in a hotel, where we could spread out in a real bed and take a real shower.
